"Fie upon thee, you wretched creature!" is an expression all too familiar
to Mr. Payne's students. Mr. Payne came to Jarvis this year as the new
head of the Classics Department. He was born in Brantford, Ontario and
went to Ryerson Public School and to Brantford C. I. V. S. On completing
his high school education he attended Trinity College at the University
of Toronto. Jarvis was lucky to get him next. Mr. Payne teaches Latin to
grades 10, II, 12, and 13 as well as Greek to grades II, 12, and 13.
He can be found every morning at eight o'clock in room 47 where he
makes Greek come alive for the grade 13 students. His hobbies include
travelling, reading and drama.
Mr. Payne says that he likes the scholarship and the manners of the
Jarvis students. His classes are not only instructive but also entertaining.
As he himself says, "Only death can keep a student away from Latin
class." Indeed, Jarvis is very fortunate to have this talented man on its
staff. We hope that he enjoys teaching us as much as we enjoy learning
from him.

MISS I. AKMENS, B.Sc.
Miss Akmens, a valuable addition to our Chemistry Department, came
to Jarvis this year.
Born in Latvia, which she left when she was a baby, she attended
Jarvis Collegiate for five years and admits that she feels very much at
home here now.
She obtained her B.Sc. degree at the University of Waterloo. At Jarvis
she teaches grade 9 Science and grade 12 Chemistry.
Her hobbies include music in general -- she was a professional ac-
cordion player once -- and sports, especially swimming and tennis.
This year she is assistant staff adviser of the Red Cross.
Miss Akmens, on behalf of the students of Jarvis, I wish you a long
and successful stay here.

W. CEBRYNSKY, B.A., B.Ed.
Mr. Cebrynsky our new Head of the Mathematics Department, came to
Jarvis this year from Humberside Collegiate.
Mr. Cebrynsky was born in Saskatoon and he attended the University of
Saskatchewan where he obtained his B.Ed. degree. From there he went to
McMaster University and received his B.A. degree.
He taught for three years at a school in Weyburn, Saskatchewan and for
another three in Welland. Then he went to Humberside Collegiate where he
taught for six years. Now Jarvis is lucky enough to have him.
Mr. Cebrynsky likes all sports and especially basketball which he used
to play for the University of Saskatchewan.
At Jarvis, he is teaching all mathematics to grades 12 and 13.
Mr. Cebrynsky is married and has a young son. He says that he sincerely
likes Jarvis. We certainly like him, and wish him a long and happy
stay here.
